Terrorist! Terrorism! Terror!

  1. Intense, overpowering fear. See Synonyms at fear.
  2. One that instills intense fear: a rabid dog that became the terror of the neighborhood.
  3. The ability to instill intense fear: the terror of jackboots pounding down the street.
  4. Violence committed or threatened by a group to intimidate or coerce a population, as for military or political purposes.
  5. Informal. An annoying or intolerable pest: that little terror of a child.

I thought it interesting to look up the Dictionary’s definition of ‘terror’ before I post, if I’m to be honest though I hadn’t expected number 4 – one can but wonder when this was placed here! Up until these scare tactics were imposed by the government I hadn’t heard of “Terror!” being used in such ways. Surely ”Terror” springs to mind as “Tim is a little Terror” and “That film was full of terror”.

This broad meaning of it is REALLY starting to aggravate me. What is an actual act of terrorism anyway? It seems only something that involves a “brown man” and a bomb! We all better watch out, with the news blaring these images at us if we convert to Muslim we’ll be suspects under surveillance. Hey, soon we’ll be coining the phrase “Anti-English” and be a real little America like we’re aiming for, then when revolutionary action starts to take place we can lock them up like the “Terrorists” they are.
